Food Tour Lake Brienz

Take a culinary tour of the Bernese Oberland. Explore the beautiful Holiday Region Interlaken by train, bus and boat while enjoying a delicious three-course meal spread over three different stops. The tour can be booked any day from August 31 to October 11, 2026.

A tour of three courses and four trips awaits. You’ll start with a delicious appetizer at Restaurant 3a in Interlaken before taking an idyllic train ride to Brienz, savoring the views of Lake Brienz and its autumnal scenery along the way. In Brienz, you change to PostBus 151 and travel to the west entrance of the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum. Here you will be served a delicious lunch in the Alter Bären Restaurant. You will also have the opportunity to stroll through the western part of the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum and imagine yourself in the Switzerland of our ancestors. After returning by bus to Brienz, you will board the ship that will be waiting for you. During the crossing to Interlaken Ost on turquoise Lake Brienz, enjoy a sweet dessert and admire the sights drifting by. Throughout the food tour, a digital or analog guide will accompany you to the various stops and offer even more entertainment.

The Food Tour

10:00 am: Start of the tour with handover of starter kit
The food tour starts in Interlaken. To go on the tour, you need a starter kit. The kit contains a QR code to start the digital tour, an analog guide, a regional soft drink, three food vouchers, admission ticket to the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum, train ticket, bus ticket and boat ticket.
 
10:30 am: First culinary station – 3a Restaurant Interlaken
Your first stop will be the welcoming surroundings of the Restaurant 3a. Depending on the selection, you will receive regional cured meat specialties, Alpine cheese or a vegan aperitif, including a drink.
 
11:40 am: Spectacular train journey
The Zentralbahn railway takes you along the banks of Lake Brienz to Brienz itself. Secure a seat by the panoramic window on the right-hand side of the train and enjoy the view.

12:04 pm: Bus ride to the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum
Having alighted from the train in Brienz, you take PostBus 151 towards Brienzwiler, Banholzfluh. Enjoy the bus ride through the woodcarving village of Brienz to Ballenberg West, Museum, where you get out to visit the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum.
 
12:30 pm: Second culinary station – the Alter Bären Restaurant
Time to savor a main course, including a drink, in the Alter Bären Restaurant. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to visit the western part of the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum. On your after-dinner stroll, discover centuries-old houses where traditional crafts are still practiced today in some cases.
 
3:06 pm: Bus journey back to Brienz
Take PostBus 151 back to Brienz.

3:40 pm: Third culinary station – Lake Brienz boat cruise
As soon as you arrive back in Brienz, you will board the boat. On board you will be served a heavenly dessert. Along the way, enjoy sights such as the Giessbach Falls, the fishing village of Iseltwald with its Seeburg Castle and the ruins of Ringgenberg Castle.

Vegan: Vegan strips with curry sauce and plain rice, including one glass of wine, beer, soft drink, coffee or tea*

Meat/vegetarian: One piece of tarte Tatin with vanilla sauce, including one soft drink (3.3 dl) or hot drink
Vegan: Mango sorbet with fresh fruit, including one soft drink (3.3 dl) or hot drink

*Only alcohol-free drinks are served to children aged 16 or under.

Although children below the age of 6 cannot be included in Food Tour bookings, they are very welcome to come along. Train, bus and boat travel are free of charge, but food and drink in the restaurants must be paid for separately.
