First Gondola Cable Car

Dear Jungfraubahnen. I decided to rate you whit the lowest possible note because i was not happy at all whit how things went!!! In the end you are just another company that looks only to profit and nothing else,which is really a shame!! Not planning to visit ever again and keep going whit the your current company strategy!!! Thanks for nothing!!!

Our day at Grindelwald First Adventure Park was, unfortunately, the worst experience of our entire trip to Switzerland. From start to finish it felt chaotic and badly managed, with staff who seemed uninterested at best and openly irritated at worst. We arrived for the mountain cart right at opening, around 9:00, expecting things to be organized and ready to go. Instead there was a growing line of people, one overwhelmed employee, and absolutely no information being shared about when or how things would start. No safety briefing, no announcements, and no explanation of the process. A second employee finally showed up around 9:30—half an hour after opening—and only then did they begin checking people in, as if they were surprised guests had actually arrived on time. The line for the carts moved painfully slowly, and it was clear there was no real system in place to manage the flow of people or communicate expected wait times. On busy days, visitors can face extremely long waits just to do a single activity, but that is not clearly explained beyond vague mentions that “long waiting times must be expected.” Our second activity, the scooter (Trottibike), turned from frustrating to genuinely concerning. The route is very long and steep, and while it is marketed as a family activity, there is only minimal instruction at the top and very little emphasis on how demanding the descent actually is. Halfway down, my husband’s scooter blew a tire. This is not just an inconvenience on this terrain; you are on a steep mountain road, moving downhill on gravel and paved sections, with no easy way to get help. When we finally made it to the bottom and explained what had happened, the staff’s response was shockingly dismissive. They more or less brushed it off and told him he should have just ridden on the rim—which was both bent and clearly unsafe to use. There was no offer to send someone up to help, no concern for whether he was okay, and not even a token gesture like an apology or a partial refund. It felt like once they had our money and our signatures, they were done caring. For the prices they charge, you would expect professional, efficient operations and a strong focus on safety. Instead, we experienced disorganization, poor communication, long unnecessary waits even at opening time, and a worrying lack of care when equipment failed during a steep downhill ride. Switzerland is full of well-run mountain experiences where staff are friendly, proactive, and safety‑conscious. Grindelwald First, on the day we visited, was the complete opposite. I would not recommend this place, especially for families, unless and until they improve their staffing, communication, and basic safety standards.

I came to Grindelwald First to snowboard. It is part of the Jungfrau Ski pass, to access all the lifts. You access it through the First Bahn in Grindelwald. The gondola from the First Bahn takes you all the way to the top area which has access to the First Cliff Walk. There wasn't full coverage of snow and it had patchy coverage just above Bort. It would have been nice to be able to ride all the way to the bottom. The Oberjoch Lift is only accessible from the First gondola station. You are able to ride down to Schreckfeld but need to get back onto the gondola to get back to the top of the First Station. The Oberjoch area is a bit higher and contains the park area. There are a few lifts (Shilt and Grindel) as well as T Bars (Bargelegg and Hohwald) around the Schreckfeld area. The snow was generally quite nice. It was also fairly sloped so it was easy to get around. There were some areas which were flatter and harder to ride on a snowboard, particularly the path between Schreckfeld and Bort. There are three areas you can ride down to get to a bus stop to take you back to First Bahn; Oberer Gletscher, Stahlisboden and Muhlebach. The buses were free to use. Although I came to snowboard, I did spend some time looking around and enjoying the sights. The Flyer did look interesting but i didn't have time to try it.

A great ski area for Intermediate skiers.The first cable car is an elderly 4 seater and can get crowded at peak times. The area is particularly good on a sunny day . Top Tip: Go early to avoid the cable car queue and best on Mon-Fri when less crods at the first (no pun) cable car
