This demanding tour takes you to the top of the Homad. After the ascent, you will be rewarded with a great panoramic view. You can even see Lake Thun from up here.

The snowshoe hike up the Homad starts from the top station of the Wiriehornbahnen at Nüegg, which you can reach easily by chairlift. From here, the circular trail follows the toboggan run for a short while before the ascent to the Homad begins. Once at the top, it’s well worth taking a long break – if only for the panoramic views – before heading back to the starting point.

Directions

From the Wiriehorn (Nüegg) mountain station, follow the signposts towards the former valley station of the Homad ski lift (toboggan run). This is where the snowshoe trail branches off to the left. From here, keep following the signposts and the ascent to the Homad begins. Once you reach the top, the trail leads back down the other side of the lift to the Homad lift’s valley station and back to the Wiriehorn (Nüegg) mountain station.  

The trail is signalled with pink directional signs and a snowshoe symbol. You are on the edge of wildlife rest zones and wildlife protection areas. Please keep to the signposts and do not leave the recommended route.

Directions & Parking facilities

Getting there
Motorway A6 Bern direction Zweisimmen, 1 km after the Simmenfluhtunnel turn left direction Diemtigtal. Follow the Diemtigtal road into the valley for 11 km to the Wiriehorn valley station. From here, the Wiriehorn cable car takes you up to the Nüegg mountain station (note operating times: www.wiriehorn.ch).
Parking
At the Wiriehorn valley station you will find parking spaces for which a fee is charged.
Public transportation
By train to Oey-Diemtigen station (Spiez-Zweisimmen line). Continue by post bus to the stop «Riedli, Talstation Wiriehorn». From here, the Wiriehorn cable car takes you up to the Nüegg mountain station (note operating times: www.wiriehorn.ch).
