Schilthorn Gondola Cable Car

Such a beautiful spot, would come back again

We visited here as a family of four from the UK, with two autistic teens and two adults. We were holidaying in the Jungfrau region, and purchased the Unlimited Jungfrau Season Passes for the duration of our trip, so this destination was in the area of validity. We visited here twice, once for the Schilthorn brunch, and once as a seperate visit to better see the views, as it was unfortunately incredibly cloudy on the first occasion. We visited the James Bond exhibits, the cinema area, the viewing platforms, the shop, and the restaurant on both occasions. Pros: + the cable cars up from the Schilthornbahn are incredible, as are the lovely new cable car stations. Everything feels very modern, well made and clean. + the views, on a good day, are simply marvellous. You can see for miles around and there are plenty of photo opportunities + the restaurant is relatively reasonably priced considering everything has to come up on a cable car etc! + the revolving restaurant is incredible- they're rare to come across! + the James Bond exhibition is amazing for any fans/anyone that is familiar with the series. Incredibly detailed and lots of interactive features. + the buffet had a wide selection and was very tasty. + on the second visit, we came up mid afternoon, and it was much more peaceful and quiet- which we greatly appreciated. Cons: - the buffet is rather expensive if you don't eat much/ have dietary requirements. Two members of our party are unable to eat dairy and found that there was a relatively small selection of food that they could eat. - one staff member was quite rude when we asked if there was possibly any dairy free alternatives for butter. Overall, a 5/5 visit. We had an incredible time, loved the cable cars, and especially the views!

A few cable car rides to the top, (the cable car rides are really awesome, with incredible views) you reach the top, there is a restaurant, souvenir shop, and oh yeah some BREATHTAKING views from the Schilthorn! If you find yourself anywhere remotely close to this place you NEED to do this!

This is a very popular mountain peak and station (2970m) in the Bernese Swiss Alps made famous during the 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service. We recently visited by way of the three stage gondola and cable car journey from Stechelberg - Mürren - Birg - Piz Gloria, which took around 40 minutes before we finally arrived at the station. This journey was included with the Jungfrau Travel Pass. The Stechelberg to Mürren stage of the the journey was remarkable. This is the steepest gondola ride in the world at 58 degree incline rising 775 metres over a 1194 metre distance. After the cable car ride between Murren and Birg, you can exit and experience the glass bottom Thrill Walk, another exciting experience. Finally arriving at Piz Gloria, you the revolving restaurant, gift shop, toilets along with outdoor platform space with incredible 360 degree, panoramic views of the surrounding Swiss Alps. While here you can learn a bit about the James Bond history by way of Spy World exhibition and the interesting outdoor Walk of Fame setup to introduce some of the actors, actresses and characters from the film shoot here back in 69. There are hiking trails as well for those interested in spending more time in the outdoors as part of their visit. Otherwise, just return by the same way you approached, potentially including time in the lovely visit of Murren on the way back down.

If you’re in the area it’s kind of a must-do., if for no other reason than to say you did it . It’s kind of a one in a lifetime thing. The summit destination is located 2,970 metres above sea level accessed by a series of cable cars. There is a great observation deck and the very cool 360-degree revolving restaurant as well a snack counter and a nice gift shop )good place to get a souvenir). The location played a prominent role in the 1969 James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and there is also some great interactive James Bond activities included. Overall it’s not to be missed in my opinion.

This place has spectacular views. However the staff seem overwhelmed with the amount of customers, customer service is not priority. I would skip it and just go for the Mountain View’s.

We ate at the Piz Gloria Restaurant for lunch today. We both ordered the hamburger. It was one of the most expensive burgers we have ever gotten, but we understand you are paying for the view. What we didn’t expect was the burgers to be the worst we have ever tasted, & we questioned if it was even beef. We did tell our waiter we were not happy with the burgers. Nothing was done. We would not recommend this tourist trap for eating.

I came to the Jungfrau area to snowboard and the ski pass covered entry to all the transportation in Murren. This included the gondola from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschlap and the subsequent train to Murren. It also gave access to the Schilthorn Bahn 20XX from Murren to get to Schilthorn. Piz Gloria is located at the top of Schilthorn and houses a building that was used for the James Bond film Her Majesty's Secret Service. There are a few James Bond themed items here, including the Spy World and some information boards on the Skyline View Platform. There is also a walk of fame but that was closed when I was there in the winter. There is also a revolving restaurant here but I didn't go in. The best thing about this area is the views. It gives a panoramic view of the Swiss Alps in the area including Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. The Skyline View Platform has multiple picture boards showing the different mountains around the area. It was definitely an amazing experience taking in the impressive alpine scenery. The best part was the ability to ride back down to Birg, but the pistes here were quite advanced so not for beginners.
