The striking pyramid of the Niesen is symbolic of the Lake Thun region, and puts its ‘twin brother’ to the east firmly in the shade – yet the Morgenberghorn offers views that are every bit as memorable, if not better. The climb to the peak features a number of highly exposed sections secured with steel cables, and is therefore suitable only for the most sure-footed of mountain hikers with a sound head for heights. Early in the route, the mountain trail is largely unpaved.
