Experiences in Habkern

Since the Niederhorn can be easily reached from Lake Thun by cable car, you are rarely alone near the mountain station. However, the further you move away from the Niederhorn, the quieter it becomes and you only meet like-minded hiking friends. Our route leads over the magnificent Güggisgrat, where there are good chances to observe ibex, chamois, or even ptarmigans.

The winter hiking trail leads from Lombachalp through the wonderful silence of the winter landscape, passing sun-tinted alpine huts into the village.

This route combines the best of breathtaking mountain panoramas and beautiful lake views – all wrapped up in a nighttime adventure. The goal of this hike is to enjoy the sunrise from the summit of Augstmatthorn.

Die Wanderung führt uns von Habkern, durch steile Waldpartien und Alpweiden, über Tschiemen – Läger nach Schönbüel. Mit Blick auf den Brienzersee erreichen wir den Suggiture. Nach der Mittagspause geht es über den Gratweg zum Augstmatthorn. Mit etwas Glück können wir hier die Steinböcke beobachten. Der Rückweg zur Lombachalp erfolgt über saftige Alpweiden. Das Augstmatthorn beeindruckt selbst dann, wenn sich die Steinböcke rarmachen: Die Route über den Brienzergrat gehört zu den schönsten im Berner Oberland. Nach längeren Regenfällen ist die Wanderung nicht empfehlenswert.

Mountain hiking trail from Grünenberg Pass to Rischeren. Demanding but very rewarding circular hike into primeval mountain areas. The karst landscape in the Seefeld nature reserve with its karst fields, rare shrubs, grasses and flowers, along with raised bogs and ponds, delights all nature lovers. Up to Grünenberg Pass, longer sections on hard surface, then continuously natural path. Avoid hiking in fog and wet weather.

A top-class pass experience is offered by the crossing from the Lombach Valley into the valley of the young Emme: The hike over the Widegg to Kemmeriboden Bad leads through a wonderfully varied landscape and runs largely on old alpine paths. Scenically attractive crossing from the remote Habkern to the upper Zulgtal. What the two landscapes on either side of the Grünenberg Pass have in common is the abundance of forest and the extraordinarily rich flora in the Seefeld–Hohgant nature reserve. At the beginning of the hike, 2 km on hard surface, otherwise mostly natural trails.

Extensive and quite demanding, yet exceptionally rewarding mountain hike over magnificent alpine meadows to one of the most beautiful viewpoints above Lake Brienz and to the largest ibex colony in the Bernese Oberland. Many variations allow for an individual design of the hike. Short hard-surface sections only in the areas of Habkern and Lombachalp.

The Luegiboden is referred to as the "nature conservation Rütli" of the canton of Bern. At the edge of the extensive moor meadow in the mountain village of Habkern, there is a huge granite erratic boulder. This impressive site is located on the splendid hiking route through the mountain forest on the northern flank of the Harder. Outside the settlement area, the surface is entirely natural.
