In the mid-19th century, the name Peter Zybach is known throughout the Haslital valley. As a charismatic host, he transforms the Grimsel Hospice into a major stopover for travelers on their way to the Valais. With great ambition and a strong pioneering spirit, the once-poor farmer’s son rises to become one of the region’s most influential figures.
But his growing success also had its downsides. Envy, wounded pride, and Zybach’s ever-increasing pursuit of profit gradually led him into a hopeless situation. Ultimately, he made a fateful decision that is considered the first documented case of insurance fraud in Swiss history.
