December is a special month for hiking. In the Swiss Plateau, it is grey and cold, which is not very inviting for a hike. In tourist areas, there is usually little snow yet, and the mountain railways often start the winter season only shortly before Christmas. A somewhat different hike, even if only a short one, is the Wiehnachtswäg in Aeschi near Spiez. The approximately two-kilometre circular route is located between Aeschi and Aeschiried. From the bus stop at Wachthubel, follow the road towards Aeschiried. At the large right curve, the marked Wiehnachtswäg begins. Along the route, you will find six wonderful scenes telling the Christmas story near small barns. At Sewenegg, the Wiehnachtswäg Beizli invites you to take a break. The circular route is especially suitable for a lovely walk at night in a special winter atmosphere with candlelight and starry sky. To walk the circular route, you will need about one hour, depending on how long you stay at the individual scenes. We recommend taking a pocket lamp with you when it is dark.
